Birmingham’s Fall Community Showcase 2015 is here!
I am very excited to work with B-Metro Magazine to help shine a much deserved spotlight on this two-weekend event. I have already visited four of the thirteen communities that have opened their doors. After reading this I know you will want to get out there and visit them too!
This years Fall Community Showcase 2015 Home is located at 404 Grey Oaks Drive in Pelham, AL and built by GBAHB member Jack Donovan of Donovan Builders, LLC. You will find it nestled in a valley with stunning views of Oak Mountain and surrounded by hills and trees. Residents are afforded convenient access to Highway 280 and Interstate 65.
The Michelle model has a three car, basement level garage and the brilliant addition of a circular driveway allows you quick access to your main level to unload groceries, etc. while allowing visitors easy access to the main level of your home. Providing additional parking spaces will surely prevent cars from parking on the street which will add to the communities curb appeal for a long time to come.
“The kitchen is the heart of the home” says Judy Dickinson, decorator for Donovan Builders, LLC. “In this home, it is no exception.” I have to wholly agree with her, I loved everything about it!
While walking through the home, everyone raved about the amazingly creative “Jack and Jill” bathroom upstairs, laying the tile on the diagonal makes the room look even larger!
Hardwood floors on the stairs and hallway are on the wish list for my home! That is probably the most traveled hallway in the home so durable hardwood floors make perfect sense!
The extravagant molding in the master bedroom, bathroom and even closet were also show stoppers!
As I left Grey Oaks I drove to the newly constructed pool and gazebo just down the street from the model homes. It was brilliant adding the large gazebo for the hot summer days when a table umbrella just doesn’t provide enough shade. Thoughtful additions like this will surely accommodate every homeowner.
While in Grey Oaks you cannot help but notice the residents well kept yards. From fall and Halloween decorations, football flags, etc. the communities HOA clearly makes allowances for their residents celebrating their favorite traditions. One such home really caught my eye, so I was compelled to stop to say hi while the homeowner graciously allowed me to take a few pictures and share their thoughts on living in Grey Oaks.
Chaudron and Tiffany Horn share why they love living in Grey Oaks. “Grey Oaks is far enough out of Pelham to feel secluded but close enough to take advantage of things to do on 280 and easy access to I-65. I have yet to meet a neighbor that wasn’t pleasant and have already made friends with many. To me the best part is the community pool across the street. My children are looking forward to spending a lot of time there.”
The Fall Community Showcase Home in Grey Oaks did not disappoint, you will want to make the trip to Grey Oaks a top priority.
Another beautiful Fall Community Showcase 2015 neighborhood is located in Helena, Alabama.
Dorothy Tayloe, Broker for Daniel Homes/Ingram and Associates describes the Hillsboro Community
A beautiful parkway leads to the neighborhoods. The variety of architectural styles offered in Hillsboro is unlike any you will find in other parts of town. There are over 3 miles of walking trails, a clubhouse and a pool. Community events are a big part of the “Return to the American Dream” lifestyle that has been created at Hillsboro. Movie nights, a hometown fair, and a large pool party and cookout are just a few of the events that are enjoyed by the residents. It is the kind of place people want to call “home”.
My first stop was to the model and it is a beautiful corner lot with a floorplan that makes wonderful use of the space. Upon entering the home you find an open concept living/dining/kitchen area that still appears to have very defined rooms.
The dining room has a perfectly placed column and ceiling enhancement that I love that helps distinguish it from the other spaces.
The kitchen was a perfect layout with a large breakfast bar, mosaic tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances and granite countertops.
Upstairs has a den or “playroom” area where your kids can essentially have their very own living room!
You can find this new Fall Community Showcase 2015 neighborhood on the corner of Cahaba Valley Trace & Laurel Grove Circle, Birmingham, AL. 35242
Stefani Scotch of Scotch Homes & Land Development Group, Inc. describes Laurel Grove
Laurel Grove is a new premier community offering large, private 1 acre plus size lots in the heart Shelby County minutes away from award winning Oak Mountain School District, shopping and entertainment. All home sites are wooded with spectacular private yards and are gentle in topography, perfect for any age. Homes designed with beautiful brick and stone exteriors, high ceilings, open floor plans, hardwood on the main level, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances provided by Allsouth, generously appointed interior trim, irrigation and covered porches. I went to Laurel Grove Sunday afternoon and it was such a beautiful and peaceful street. With the street ending in a cul-de-sac and 1+ acre lots, this is bound to become a close-knit neighborhood! If you are looking to build now, don’t delay these won’t last long!
The town square can be found at 5 Mt Laurel Avenue, Birmingham, AL.

The Fall Community Showcase 2015 has a total of 13 communities opening their doors, below are the other 9 communities participating, links to their websites provided~
Gently tucked in the rolling hills of Trussville, just 20 minutes north of Birmingham, Carrington Lakes is a 1500-acre master planned community that encompasses six stocked lakes with boat launches, a nature preserve, miles of hiking and biking trails.
No longer are amenities like lakes, parks, walking trails and manicured landscaping exclusive to more expensive neighborhoods. Other amenities include a landscaped entrance with a 100-foot tall clock tower, a park system, playing fields, lakes and an elementary school! When completed Chelsea Park will have 3,000 homes in a variety of distinctive neighborhoods.
Highland Lakes is a truly unique community of homes, quiet tree-lined sidewalks, streets and parks. It’s a neighborhood in touch with today’s world, but somehow slightly removed from it. The community’s over 1,700 acres spread out and down from the Appalachian ridges of Oak Mountain. No matter where you choose to build in Highland Lakes, you can be assured of gated, retreat-like privacy with executive convenience.
Magnolia Woods is a custom home community nestled in the heart of Vestavia Hills, AL. Just miles from highway and interstate access, shopping, grocery, and restaurants, this hidden gem will definitely surprise you. The subdivision is comprised of 13 lots that range between .5 to 1 acres in size. The remaining lots and current homes for sale are zoned for the award winning Vestavia Hills school system.
Music festivals and art shows, wide porches with rocking chairs and picnics in the park … It’s all here at The Preserve, conveniently located in the heart of Hoover. From early Colonial and Federal to elegant Greek Revival, Italianate and Victorian styles, homes in The Preserve are based on classic American architecture.
It will feel like home the minute you drive in. Pass through the beautiful entry, where you are greeted by the award-winning Welcome Center, and you’ll know you’ve arrived at Ross Bridge. Visit the beautiful neighborhoods of Haddon, Glasscott, Northampton and Southampton. These neighborhoods boast of homes appealing to every level of the home buying market – from first time home buyers to custom estate homes…. All built by the best home builders around.
Here in Trussville Springs, we give you everything under the sun: like the air. And the trees. And the stars. And the birds. And the flowing Cahaba River. And the trail that runs beside it. Because that’s the stuff that’s real. And that’s all you need. There’s a 20 acre park. A spectacular pond with fountain. A pocket park complete with a community storm shelter. Seriously.
As you admire the scenic mountain vistas from one of Turnberry Highlands’ 153 homesites, it’s easy to see where this Gardendale new home community got its name. But it’s not just the majestic views that take this neighborhood to higher heights; the amenities, home styles and location are setting the standard for northern Birmingham new home communities. Featuring award-winning 3 and 4 bedroom home plans starting in the low $200’s from Harris Doyle Homes’ proprietary portfolio, these new homes will boast standard features including granite countertops, hard surface flooring and tile that will ensure the inside of your new home looks just as spectacular as the outside.
Unique community of upscale, custom built homes with an entrance directly across from the main street of Mt Laurel. Surrounded by nature, trails, parks, a pool, cabana and sidewalks that connect the entire Village neighborhood.
